Biomechanical factors in diabetic foot disease

چکیده
Methods Although the risk of vascular disease is markedly increased in diabetes [1], it is the combination of altered vascular status and nerve damage that often leads to ulceration and amputation [2]. Important early studies by Brand and colleagues [3] focused on elevated stress in a deformed, neuropathic limb as a causative factor in tissue breakdown and this has been a constant theme of experimental and analytical studies to the present day.

Photobiomodulation With Customized Insoles on Maximum Plantar Pressure in Diabetic Foot Syndrome Using the Biomechanical Model: A case report
A 49-year male patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus with diabetic foot syndrome was evaluated by comprehensive diabetic foot assessment. Photobiomodulation therapy (low-level laser therapy) was prescribed for neuropathic pain and symptoms with scanning and probe method for 10 sessions. Customized insoles were recommended for redistributing the plantar pressures and reducing stress on the diabe...

Background: The aim of this study was to identify mechanical risk factors of diabetic foot ulcers and presenting biomechanical solving to prevent diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: Related articles from validate electronic and indexed sources from 1990 to 2014 were studied. In summation, 140 articles from electronic databases and journals, Elsevier, Pumped, Up to date, Google scholar, Cochrane libr...
متن کاملLower limb biomechanical characteristics of patients with neuropathic diabetic foot ulcers: the diabetes foot ulcer study protocol
BACKGROUND Foot ulceration is the main precursor to lower limb amputation in patients with type 2 diabetes worldwide. Biomechanical factors have been implicated in the development of foot ulceration; however the association of these factors to ulcer healing remains less clear. It may be hypothesised that abnormalities in temporal spatial parameters (stride to stride measurements), kinematics (j...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of Effective Risk Factors for Foot skin in Diabetic Patients
Abstract Introduction: Foot ulceration is one of the most serious and disabling complications of Diabetes Mellitus and identification of risk factors affecting foot ulcer can prevent it from causing irreparable consequences. Objective: Therefore the aim of this study was to comparing the situation of the foot skin in diabetic patients with and without foot ulcers. Methods: In this cr...
متن کاملThe prevention of diabetic foot ulceration: how biomechanical research informs clinical practice
Background Implementation of interprofessional clinical guidelines for the prevention of neuropathic diabetic foot ulceration has demonstrated positive effects regarding ulceration and amputation rates. Current foot care recommendations are primarily based on research regarding the prevention of ulcer recurrence and focused on reducing the magnitude of plantar stress (pressure overload). Yet, f...
